How to request a duplicate registration certificate.

If the owner of a vehicle needs a duplicate registration certificate due to loss or damage of the original, the government provides a facility for this purpose.

To obtain the duplicate registration certificate, the first step is to report the loss or damage to the original certificate to the local police.

Next, the applicant needs to fill out Form 26, which is the required application form for a duplicate registration certificate. Any outstanding payments must also be settled as per Rule 81 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules 1989.

To apply, the following documents must be submitted:

1. Application form (Form 26) for the duplicate registration certificate.
2. Police certificate confirming the loss or damage of the original RC.
3. Pollution under control certificate for the vehicle.
4. Insurance certificate for the vehicle.
5. Proof of address for the vehicle owner.
6. For commercial vehicles, challan clearance from traffic police and Enforcement Transport Wing.
7. Tax clearance document for commercial vehicles.
8. PAN card of the vehicle owner or Form 60 and Form 61.
9. Print of the engine chassis and engine pencil of the vehicle.
10. Signature identification of the vehicle owner.
11. An affidavit stating the loss of the original registration certificate must also be provided.
