The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways introduced the BH series registration plates on 28th August 2021 to streamline the vehicle registration process for defense personnel and government employees who frequently relocate due to their transferable jobs. Transitioning vehicle registration to a different state can be cumbersome, and the BH series aims to mitigate this hassle. The initiative commenced on 15th September 2021 and has since brought significant changes to the Indian automobile industry. If you are eligible for a BH registration, here's how you can obtain it for your vehicle.
Check Eligibility
The BH registration is currently available only to a select group of individuals. Eligible recipients include employees from the defense sector and state and central government employees with transferable jobs. Additionally, private sector employees whose companies have offices in more than four states or union territories can also apply for BH registration for their personal vehicles.
Filling Up the Online Application
When purchasing a new car, the dealership will handle the online application process using Form 20 on the Vahan portal. The dealer will select the appropriate series type for the vehicle's registration as the Bharat Series (BH series). This step ensures that the vehicle is correctly categorized for the BH registration.
Submitting Required Documents
During the online application process on the Vahan portal, the dealer must upload a working certificate for the car buyer. This certificate can include Form 60 or an official identity card. Additionally, other necessary documents must be submitted to complete the application. This documentation verifies the eligibility of the applicant for the BH series registration.
Pay Online
Once the application is filled out and all required documents are submitted, the vehicle owner must pay the necessary fee or motor vehicle tax online. For the BH series registration plate, the vehicle owner is required to pay the tax for an initial period of two years. This payment is a crucial step in finalizing the registration process.
Approval by RTO
After completing all procedures, the Vahan 4 system will randomly generate a BH series number. The concerned Regional Transport Office (RTO) will then approve the BH series application. Upon approval, the vehicle will be officially registered under the BH series, providing greater flexibility and convenience for those with transferable jobs.
